Kai was born at Yokota Air Force Base, Japan and grew up in Washington D.C., Virginia, Tokyo, and in Hawaii. He started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in November of 2014 under Daynin Dashefsky at Kahala Jiu Jitsu. Kai has competed and won championships multiple times at various tournaments to include Naga Hawaii, Naga Pacific, Hawaii Triple Crown and the Japan Dumau. Kai began teaching kids classes for Impact Kahala Jiu Jitsu in summer 2017 and was promoted to Green Belt under Daynin Dashefsky in Dec 2017. When he is not on the mats he is spending time with his family, fishing or studying.
Jared was born on the island of Maui and raised on the island of Molokai. He started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in June 2011 at Gracie Barra University under Professor Aldo “Caveirinha” Januario for a year then moved to the UFC Gym where he trained under Professor Leandro Nyza of Nova Uniao for the next four years. In late 2016 he made the move to Kahala Jiu Jitsu.
As a competitor he’s competed in just a few tournaments, NAGA (2 Silver Medals, 1 Bronze) as well as the Rio BJJ Pro IBJJF Championship held in Rio de Janeiro. Jared is currently a Purple Belt and hopes to share his passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with others. Through his short journey he’s learned that many concepts of BJJ translate directly to life off the mats. Timing, technique, leverage, and most importantly Patience! Concepts that can definitely benefit everyone in daily life!
Born and raised in Hawaii, Daynin has been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since April of 2001. She started her training under Jason Izzaguirre for 7 years at Gracie Kailua then moved to Hawaii Kai Gracie Jiu-Jitsu where she trained under Ron Huxen for the next 7 years before starting her Black Belt Journey with Professor Michael Chapman of Impact Jiu Jitsu. In 2014, Daynin opened Kahala Jiu Jitsu, the first, and only, female-owned Jiu Jitsu and Self Defense school in Hawaii. She opened her second KJJ Academy downtown in May 2017. Daynin has competed in various tournaments over the years and has won first place in many of them to include winning all 3 divisions (Women's Gi, Women's No-Gi and The Women's Absolute Championship) in the 2009 NAGA (National American Grappler's Association) Tournament and first and second place medals at the Worlds Masters Tournament in 2014 in Long Beach, CA. Daynin is currently a Black Belt under Professor Michael Chapman of Impact Jiu-Jitsu and aspires to build a school where people can learn the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a WAY OF LIFE, not a way to Fight. Outside of Jiu Jitsu, Daynin is a single mom of 2 daughters and is a motivational speaker focusing on empowerment, entrepreneurship and specializes in working with Inventors and Entrepreneurs. Daynin is also the founder and head instructor of "Hawaii Biz Kids" where she teaches kids ages 7-15 how to start and run their own businesses.
